Wrought Iron Products
In Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, the ancient art of iron extraction and wrought iron craftsmanship thrives to this day. This metalworking tradition owes its existence to the tribal communities of the region, particularly the Agaria, whose name translates to “workers of fire.” Using iron, skilled artisans create a diverse array of metal products, deeply rooted in their cultural traditions. Passed down through generations, the craft begins at a young age, with children as young as five learning the intricate techniques. Using metal, artisans sculpt small abstracted forms of animals such as monkeys, tigers, and deer. Among their creations, the ‘Laman Diya’ holds special significance. Crafted by tribal artists, these traditional oil lamps are highly sought after by urban buyers nationwide.
Rustic and symbolic, these iron art decorative items serve as eloquent symbols of tribal life, gracing ceremonies and rituals with their presence.
