Artist Name: Jinha Barman
Place: District Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
When 13-year-old Jinha got married, her childhood was eclipsed by the responsibilities of adulthood. However, it was in her art that she found recluse from the confines of the four walls of her house. Like the marble she so skilfully sculpts into stunning artifacts, her art shaped her life as well. When Jinha’s husband couldn’t earn well enough to sustain the family, Jinha took it upon herself to ensure her family did not have to struggle. Learning from skilled artisans in her area, Jinha slowly but carefully honed her sculpting
techniques. Today, the woman who never went to school and got married as a child, is the breadwinner of her family. Jinha now, along with her husband, is a proud owner of a small workshop where they both carve sculptures with the same love and honesty with which they have carved their lives.
