Artist Name: Subhadra Dhurve
Place: District Dindori, Madhya Pradesh
Subhadra’s memories take her back to the time in her life when she had to walk for miles on foot into the jungle, gathering wood, and trudging back to the rural market to sell her wares. Each day’s journey brought back only a handful of rice, barely enough to sustain her family. Government intervention revived traditional iron smelting, empowering Subhadra and other women to craft intricate artifacts. For Subhadra, it was a reunion with a heritage that had always surrounded her. With minimal investment, they
now save substantial amounts, ranging from 35,000 to 40,000 rupees each. Their art not only sustains them but also inspires their community with hope and possibility.
