Artist Name: Rama Tomar
Place: District Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh
50 years old, Rama Tomar had never imagined that her domestic rituals would pave the path to her long-awaited freedom. Among the Rathwa tribe, Pithora paintings are traditionally painted out on dwelling walls as sacred vows in rituals. For Rama decorating the walls of her house was just another ritual that brought her joy. Yet, her paintings stood out, captivating her family, who encouraged her to transition her magic from walls to canvases. Since then, Rama’s artistic journey has been unstoppable. Dreaming of her art transcending boundaries, Rama faces challenges due to limited access to patrons. Sadly, many women like her are forced to abandon their artistic aspirations. However, organizations like AIF remain dedicated to ensuring artists like Rama retain their wings and soar to greater heights.
